Christian Character Clubhouse: Decisions! Decisions!
Divide the family into two teams. On one side of the room, there are cups filled with water. Some you will fill to the brim (maybe a little room to prevent guaranteed spills), and others will be filled, but not all the way, so carrying will not result in spills. On the other side of the room, have two empty buckets or containers that are identical in size and will hold water in about half of the cups, with room to spare. Divide the group into two teams. One by one, each team member must select a cup and carry it to the other side. If they spill, they must stop, count to three, and then continue. When they get to the bucket, they will pour the water into the bucket again, trying not to spill. They will return to their team so the next team member can do the same. When every team member has gone, the one with the most water in their bucket wins. (Notice that getting there first does not matter.)
To process this activity, ask these or similar questions:
Did you like the water game?
How hard was it to decide which cup to choose?
Did anybody have a hard time deciding and receive “feedback” from the team?
Did anyone suggest which cup you should take?
What are the advantages of choosing a large cup?
What are the advantages of choosing a small cup or one that may not be filled as much?
Did the advantages change based on who was deciding?
How did you decide how fast to walk?
When did you realize that being fast was not the goal?
Did you regret any of your decisions?
Who do you turn to when you need to make tough decisions?
How can we ask God to help us with a decision? (pray, read the bible, ask a trusted faith-filled adult)
Will you remember this water game when you have to make a decision?
