Discovering Character in Versailles
I bought a basket at the Heroes Celebration Silent Auction for a weekend in Versailles, Indiana which contained several gift cards. My husband and I found visiting Versailles to be delightful and have made two trips with a third trip pending. On our first trip we started the day at the Rolling Pin restaurant ($50 gift card) where we ate the biggest and most tasty omelets ever! The French Toast, biscuits with gravy and even the orange juice were exceptional. We also bought pastries to go. The waitress and other staff were gracious and displayed Kindness.
Next we went to Pat’s Bulk Food and Country Store ($20 gift card) where we found unique choices of food – we bought a bag of dried apricots and Australian licorice. It takes Determination and Initiative to start a bulk food store in a small town like Versailles.
Our next stop was at Novel Hearts Bookstore ($20 gift card plus a book) where we met Laura Smart (co-owner), had a wonderful conversation, and did some shopping. Laura gave us the history of the bookstore, which has both used and new books for children as well as adults, and a large room for group painting/art. Her Enthusiasm and Creativity shone, which enticed us to return.
On our return trip to Versailles we visited Emily’s Brew ($20 gift card) where we ate superb homemade breakfast sandwiches along with great coffee and pastries. Afterwards we visited the Traveling Boutique (“Life is Good” t-shirt and $20 gift card) where I bought two “Life is Good” t-shirts. Both venues were Generous with portions, their gifts and gift cards.
On our return trip to Novel Hearts Bookstore we met Cheryl Obendorf (the other co-owner), had another great conversation, and did more shopping. We ordered something to be delivered to the store so we would be sure to return. Maybe the next time we will bring our grandkids or join the group painting with Laura.
In our basket we found a coffee cup from the Tyson United Methodist Church along with a voucher for a private tour. We saw the stunning architecture of the outside of the church and now need to return for a private tour.
Later that day we visited the White Rabbit (2 free appetizers) where we had appetizers, dinner and drinks in a most interesting, Creative space evoking Alice of Wonderland.
In our basket we also have a voucher for 2 nights of camping at Versailles State park which will be a treat. We also used a $20 gift card from the basket for Personally Yours in Aurora, which we have visited multiple times before (Loyalty) with the grandkids for ice cream.
