For the Faithful
Self-Control
Managing my impulses to make steady progress toward my goals
Our current faith‑based resources are written from a Christian perspective, but we know that many other faith traditions also nurture strong character, and we want to honor and uplift that diversity.
We are actively seeking contributors from additional faith traditions who would like to help us expand this section. If you are interested, we would be grateful to partner with you.
Self-control helps believers live with wisdom and spiritual discipline.
When we manage our words, emotions, and actions, we reflect the transforming work of the Holy Spirit. Self-control creates a community marked by peace and maturity.

Small Temptations
by Jill Tomey
The world throws temptations at us daily, so it is important to stay focused on what God wants us to do. Self-control is a fruit of the Holy Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23), so exercising discipline reflects our life in God. When we practice saying No to even little temptations, it builds our discipline for saying No to larger temptations. Prayer, attending worship services and meditating on the scriptures are all ways to build our discipline so that our actions are influenced by God.
This month, build your discipline by recognizing and resisting temptations of all sizes.
