Humility

Acknowledging my strengths and limitations accurately while staying mindful of the value of others

Humility helps create a workplace where people feel respected, supported, and empowered to contribute.

When individuals recognize their own strengths and limitations while also valuing the perspectives and gifts of others, teams grow stronger, communication improves, and collaboration becomes more meaningful. Humility encourages leaders and coworkers alike to listen well, keep learning, and work together in ways that build trust and shared success.

Essay

Humility is a Superpower!

by Jill Tomey

I was quite surprised at the number of articles, videos, podcasts, and books focusing on Humility in Leadership. Humility is not the first quality to come to mind when you think of the best qualities for a leader to cultivate, but it seems to be a linchpin for many other qualities. It is key to working with Cooperation and being Grateful by recognizing the strengths of others. It is a foundation for Confidence, as you have a realistic view of your strengths. That same realistic view applies to your weaknesses. Humility allows you to admit these and seek and accept help. Humility supports Forgiveness in allowing yourself and your team members to take risks, make mistakes, learn, and move on. Humility strengthens Responsibility and owning up to failures. That’s a lot of superpower for such a humble quality!

This month, what quality will you strengthen with Humility?
