Do you have employees who are disengaged or family members who are apathetic?
Enthusiasm stems from engagement. The more we are engaged in a project or task, the more Enthusiasm we exude. And Enthusiasm in the workplace and at home is contagious. Here are ways to foster engagement in the workplace and at home:
Model enthusiasm. Begin by checking your own attitude and style to ensure you are expressing interest and excitement. Treat every job as important and put your heart into it.
Ask for input and feedback. Everyone needs to know that their opinion matters. As much as possible, involve others in your decision-making. Take time to listen to the ideas and concerns of your coworkers and family members.
Give spontaneous feedback. Some managers wait until a formal evaluation to provide feedback to employees. Today’s employees want more immediate feedback to help them continuously improve, even daily, through the course of business.
Appreciate others. The same holds true for recognition and appreciation. Let others know often, informally, formally, verbally, and in writing, that you appreciate their efforts and progress.
Make it fun! Do too many meetings have everyone in a rut? Rather than more doughnuts, try starting your meeting with an icebreaker activity or move your meeting outside or to an interesting location. Better yet, start your meeting with a discussion of the character quality of the month.
