Compassion helps create a workplace where people feel supported during both ordinary and difficult moments.
When coworkers offer encouragement, patience, or help, stress decreases and trust deepens. Compassion fosters a culture where wellbeing matters and people feel safe to ask for what they need.

Compassion – the Human Side of Leadership
by Jill Tomey
Performance metrics abound in the workplace, and it is easy to get lost in managing a workgroup solely based on the numbers. There isn’t a standard metric for Compassion, but it is an essential component of successful leadership, so how do you know when you get it right?
Compassion is the human side of leadership and requires relationships with your employees. How well do you know each one? You can probably identify the ones you know well and the ones you know less. What can you do to build better relationships? Knowing an employee is not like knowing your best friend. You do not need to know their whole history or details about their personal lives. You do need to know their strengths, challenges, and motivations. If you know the fears that hold them back from taking risks, you can seek to mitigate them. Knowing their autonomy preferences (within the responsibility structure, of course) can assist in how you lead them. If you are aware of their career goals, you can be watchful for ways to help them. When you know your employees’ needs, you can use your Compassion to manage them better, making them happier and more productive.
This month, how will you build relationships to increase Compassion?
