For the Faithful

Compassion

Providing comfort, encouragement, or help during difficult moments

Our current faith‑based resources are written from a Christian perspective, but we know that many other faith traditions also nurture strong character, and we want to honor and uplift that diversity.

We are actively seeking contributors from additional faith traditions who would like to help us expand this section. If you are interested, we would be grateful to partner with you.

Compassion reveals God’s heart through our actions.

When we comfort, encourage, or help others, we embody Christ’s love in tangible ways. Compassion builds a community where burdens are shared and hope is renewed.

Turn Compassion into an Action Verb

by Jill Tomey

Compassion is about loving actions to help another person in pain. Acting compassionately requires that we see the person we are helping as a person and not just a problem that needs fixing. Advent is the perfect time to be studying Compassion as it is a time of self-reflection and a reminder to turn away from sin and self-centeredness. But any time is a good time to replace consumption with Compassion. Filled with this Compassion, we are commissioned by our Baptism to act compassionately towards others. These acts are not just random and when convenient. We are called to make it a plan, a way of life, a commitment, a second job. This calling is so strong that we should feel pulled to seek out those who need our help.

This month, turn the noun Compassion into an action verb.
