Connecting Collaboration to the Science Curriculum

Symbiosis comes from two Greek words that mean “with” and “living.” It describes a relationship between two organisms from different species that is sometimes, but not always, beneficial to both parties. When it benefits both parties, it is known as Mutualism. It is a great example of Collaboration in the animal kingdom. For example, the clownfish is immune to the stinging tentacles of a sea anemone, which it can use to hide from its predators. The benefit for the sea anemone is that the presence of the clownfish attracts other fish that the anemone can eat.
