Preserving History and Promoting Character in Lincoln Heights
The Lincoln Heights Ohio Historical Society and the Character Council of Greater Cincinnati have entered into a new community partnership built around a shared purpose: preserving the stories that shaped Lincoln Heights while highlighting the character qualities that continue to strengthen the community today. The partnership runs from September 11, 2026, through September 10, 2027.
Lincoln Heights has a rich history shaped by residents, leaders, families, and organizations whose service and leadership have left a lasting impact. Through this partnership, the two organizations will work together to connect that history with character education, civic responsibility, and community leadership.
Connecting Character with Community History
A central goal of the partnership is to introduce more people in Lincoln Heights to the Character Council’s mission and resources while also bringing character education into the Historical Society’s publications, educational activities, member communications, and community outreach.
That will include opportunities to highlight Lincoln Heights historical figures, residents, and community leaders whose lives demonstrate positive character qualities.
The organizations plan to collaborate in several ways, including:
Character features in the Historical Society’s quarterly newsletter, The Beacon
Profiles connecting local leaders and historical figures with specific character qualities
Educational resources focused on character-based leadership, service, ethical decision-making, and civic responsibility
Community programs, presentations, exhibits, and Character Week activities
Oral-history, youth, leadership, and civic-education projects that connect the history of Lincoln Heights with character development
Learning from the People Who Came Before Us
History is more than a record of what happened. It gives us examples of perseverance, responsibility, courage, compassion, leadership, and service.
By sharing the stories of people who helped shape Lincoln Heights, this partnership creates an opportunity not only to preserve their accomplishments, but also to consider the character behind those accomplishments.
The Character Council will provide monthly character-quality materials, educational resources, articles, graphics, and information about programs and seminars. The Historical Society will bring those resources into its communications while maintaining responsibility for the community’s historical information, stories, photographs, and interpretation.
Preserving a Legacy—and Carrying It Forward
The mission of the Lincoln Heights Ohio Historical Society includes preserving and sharing the Village’s history, promoting civic education and community pride, and encouraging residents to carry that legacy forward. The Character Council works to help individuals and organizations intentionally incorporate good character into leadership, decisions, relationships, and everyday life.
Together, those missions create a natural connection.
By looking back at the people who helped build the community—and examining the qualities that shaped their choices—we can help inspire the next generation to carry that legacy forward.
Preserving History and Promoting Character is more than the theme of this partnership. It is an opportunity to celebrate where Lincoln Heights has been while investing in the character of where it goes next.
