The Wise Leader
by Jill Tomey, Content Creator, Character Council
Iker Urrutia, in her article, The Wise Leader, puts wisdom on a pedestal for all, but especially leaders. In these challenging times, leaders need to be able to do the Wise thing – the right thing.
Urrutia sees 3 attributes of a Wise Leader. The first is Self-Awareness. It’s important to understand the good, the bad, our biases, and perspectives. More importantly, wise leaders understand how all those influence our thoughts, actions, and behavior. Using humility, they know their shortcomings and are open to learning for personal growth and company success. Her second attribute is Sound Judgment. (We call that Good Character.) Sound judgment pulls in your experience, but also plain ol’ common sense. Doing the right thing because it is the right thing. The third attribute is Strong Sense of Purpose. The values and vision that guide this purpose are what give the first two attributes their power. Give someone a “why,” and they will help you with the “how”.
The world needs your Wise leadership. What will you do to become wiser?
