Be Brief, Be Bright, and Be Gone
by Mary Andres Russell
The Founder of our Character Council, Michael P. Daly, has a quote he lives by, “Be brief, be bright and be gone.” He is also consistently early — 10-15 minutes early — for every meeting. This habit of punctuality has served him well in business and in life.
The key to success with punctuality is not to aim at being on time, but to aim at being early — consistently early. It is amazing how this habit alleviates stress. Imagine each day and for each meeting arriving 10 minutes early, having time to gather your thoughts, settle in with a cup of coffee, and connect with others as they arrive.
Arriving early for our first engagement sets the tone for the entire day. Instead of constantly rushing, we are more likely to stay on schedule and flow through the day without undue stress or anxiety. Punctuality is also a statement to others that we place a high value on their time.
What a great habit for cultivating success. In February, work on arriving early, and then — be brief, be bright and be gone!
