Emotional Regulation and Academic Endurance
by Jill Tomey
Classroom challenges present students with many opportunities to practice Endurance, from focusing on a difficult math problem to navigating social pressures. Having control of one’s emotions helps students manage these challenges effectively.
Without emotional regulation, students can experience more stress and anxiety, which can interfere with their ability to concentrate or complete assignments. Frustration and anger can demotivate students and cause them to stop trying. Negative emotions can reduce thinking ability and make it more difficult to learn.
When students control their emotions, they can stay calm and focused on completing their work better. Managing their stress helps them maintain motivation and endure challenges. Including mindfulness activities, physical activity, breathing exercises, and other stress management techniques can improve the students’ level of Endurance.
