The Sheep Teach Us About Attentiveness

Because pets know the sound of their owner’s voice they are willing to listen to commands and follow them. Sheep do the same thing to the voice of the Shepherd that they have come to know. Being in the presence of the shepherd helps them to learn his voice. They build up trust in his commands and follow him. If someone they don’t know tries to command them with a voice they do not recognize, they will run away in fear. When they hear the voice and words they know, they respond in trust.

We need to put ourselves in the presence of our Shepherd so that we recognize and trust his voice. We also must learn to run away from the voices that do not belong to our Shepherd.
