In a historic undertaking, Cincinnati will become one of the first major cities to implement character training for its police officers and firefighters. This effort was supported on May 17, 2000 by Cincinnati City Council when they passed a motion to help allow for the privately funded training to occur.
With the approval of Chief Thomas Streicher and Chief Robert Wright, approximately 140 Cincinnati supervisory police officers and firefighters (apprx. 47 per day) are receiving character training over the three days from Sheriff Ray Nash from the Police Dynamics Institute (based in South Carolina). Sheriff Nash has provided intensive character training for officers in cities across the country.
The training is part of the community-wide "Cities of Character" initiative that was announced at a press conference and signed into effect by City Council on September 27, 2000. This effort embraces all segments of the community including: businesses, government agencies, faith communities, and schools.
PHOTO/VIDEO AND INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITIES
Media is welcome to come and view the last day of the training at any time from 8:45 AM to 3:30 PM. (Lunch from 11:30-12:30) Interviews will be most effective later in the day after the training has been implemented.
