NEW LIFE TEMPLE
CHURCH
A Model "Church of Character"
November 21, 2001
New Life Temple Church is an independent church
of approximately 650 parishioners spanning all
ages. The congregation is predominately
Afro-American, located in the racially integrated
Madisonville neighborhood of Cincinnati. Started 30
years ago by Senior Pastor Ralph Godfrey right
after the race riots centered in this community,
the Church has been a steadfast instrument in
rebuilding the community socially, spiritually and
economically. In addition to Senior Pastor Godfrey,
the staff includes two associate pastors for
education and property, and a full time evangelist
focusing on community outreach and development. The
Church owns its church and school grounds and
facilities.
Congregational services include two Sunday
morning worship services, Sunday School for all
ages, and multiple adult Bible studies and a youth
study on Monday evenings. Included on Monday
evenings is a four-year study of the Bible for new
members, which focuses nearly a year on character.
About 50% of the congregation participate in
fellowship-support-study cell groups during the
week.
The Church offers a day care center with
approximately 75 children and a school with grades
K1-2 for approximately 25 students.
In reaching out to the community the Church
sponsors a number of basketball teams designed to
attract and develop youth. In addition, it is
currently in the development stages of a
strategically located gym to attract men and youth
with idle time, and an apartment complex to help
rejuvenate the community and provide affordable
housing.
